Argentina V. Catalunya

May 24th
----------
Today I´ll be going to the Argentina v. Catalunya game with a new friend (whom I haven´t met yet) Roser.

When I got on the metro with a few friends and we headed over to the metro stop near Camp Nou (Barca´s stadium) I got a txt message telling me that she´d be waiting outside the station wearing a blue sweater and grey pants...When we exited the station I couldn´t really tell which person around was her (there were a few wearing similar) until she called my name...we headed over and introduced ourselves and she told us she had to find her friend that´d be joining us for the game, so we waited at the next corner for her to go and ring the buzzer.

After meeting up with her friend (a girl from New York), we headed over to the stadium, which was about 2 block away, but the entrance was all the way on the other side of the stadium so we had a ways to walk fast if we wanted to make it for the kickoff...as we were in line for tickets, the people in front of us took forever (i guess because you can choose where exactly you want to sit in the stadium), but fortunately it was a large group of people so we didn´t have to wait too long...we got our tickets with 3 minutes till kickoff, and quickly entered the gate and ran up the stairs (there were a lot of them), and as we rounded the last corner of the stairs before our seats, the game started and we missed the kickoff and the Catalan national anthem being sung.

It was all good though, because we were there...in the amazing Camp Nou, the largest club futbol stadium in the world, watching my favorite team (Argentina) play against a team that rarely gets to suit up, but probably should...there´s a long story to this...both that the Catalan team was of great quality (though Argentina didn´t bring their full squad...they were missing Riquelme, Crespo, Tevez , and most of their starters, excluding Lionel Messi...and I found out later that it was the U23 team) and that Cataluña has been trying to secede from Spain for a while now...

The game was a good one...well played and exciting on both ends of the pitch, the first half ended tied up 0-0, and then after a beautifully played counterattack, Lavezzi scored around the 60th minute and Argentina battled to keep that lead until the end...though there were some strong attempts from the Catalan side...all in all the game was awesome and the people we were there with were really cool too.

After the game, we went out to a little square nearby and chilled and talked about what was going on in the city and what there was to do, the political situation both here and back in the US, how she was coming to the states to study next year, and plenty more. After sitting for a while, we decided to go get some pizza, and afterwards Roser departed to get some sleep to study the next morning, for her exams were the following week, and left with her friend from NY.

Another friend of her´s, an Austrian fellow was still chilling with us and asked if we wanted to go to a free concert that was going on in the metro tonight...it didn´t take long for us to decide that that sounded cool, so we left for the metro.

We ended up near the Universitat metro stop, where we met some of Jorge (that was his simplified name)´s friends that were from Germany and a few other European countries. We chilled outside the metro stop for a while, negotiating with the ¨dos mas!¨ cerveza-man, then we went in the metro stop.

Inside, there was a post-punk three-piece Catalan band playing that was pretty good...the drummer was really talented and the bassist was amazingly beautiful, and didn´t quite fit the role of a rockstar, but was sliding around everywhere in her shoes and created good stage presence (though there wasn´t a stage...more so a backdrop advertising Primavera Sound, the festival that this was a part of that would be more massively organized later the following weekend)...the vocals were dually voiced and the overall sound of the band was damn good (even though that´s not normally my style of music), and I enjoyed the show...especially the last song where the girl screamed for half the song and sung in a high pitch voice for the other parts...it was pretty awesome to see for free.

Once the concert was over, we wanted to go chill at some bars, but then (from literally nowhere) it started pouring down rain for 10 minutes staight...causing most of our group to run back to the metro (we had found some more of our friends at the show)...i stood under a small balcony with a few of my newly made friends and we decided that it´d prolly be better to call it a night and that we´d meet up later on...so we exchangd contacts, etc, and left our separate ways.
